Duckling leg deformity - please help :(

Yeah, I didn't know if they knew about ducks.
It's ok Flash.
I don't know much about Ducks, but it's fine to tag if you want. I may not know what the issue is, but we can hopefully find someone that may have some suggestions.
Looks like the OP is getting some good responses, so hopefully this little one can start recovering:)

Hey all!

We helped watch some late hatchlings for a friend and the only duckling that survived came out with a pretty noticeable leg deformity. She seems to be able to walk and run and scuttle around pretty well but I'm concerned that as she gets older and heavier this is going to turn into a painful problem.

Her foot is very crooked and turns inward with a little bit of tow curling, sort of like she has club foot, and it causes her to walk on her ankle joint instead of her actual foot.

We tried to make shoes and splits but they either fell right off or didn't seem to be what she needed. We're not sure how to help her because we're scared we're going to break her little leg.

I attached pictures. The foot is very stiff and doesn't move back into it's proper position well. She doesn't like me messing with it but I can't tell if it's because it hurts her or because she just doesn't like to be handled.

She's about a week old and I desperately need help on how to fix this. :(
Aww, poor baby! The fact that she's going to be a bigger duck will make things hard for her. Swimming is definitely good to take the weight off of her leg, but until her oil gland is working you'll need to be careful that she doesn't get too wet.
I had a duck this past spring that had a leg issue, he slipped his tendon. He was already older when it happened and it was pretty much unfixable. The leg eventually died, and he acted exactly like yours, walking on his hock.
A friend and I amputated the leg, and planned to put on a type of boot over the stump once it healed shut. The problem was keeping him mostly immobile until then. He ended up slipping the tendon on his other leg, and it got to be just too much for him. He died a couple weeks later. I kind of think he just was more prone to leg issues in the first place for whatever reason.
My point is, if you could find someone to remove just the foot, you could put some kind of prosthetic over it.

Mine learned to walk pretty well until he messed up his other leg.

It will be a long road for sure, if you're willing to pursue it, and it may be expensive. My duck was pretty valuable and I didn't want to lose him, so I tried all I could. If you want to try to help yours, I'll do everything I can to help you. I learned a lot during the whole ordeal.
