I brought home 6 ducklings last night from TSC and 2 were having some trouble but seam to be perking up this afternoon now that I've gotten the temp right (I was using a Brinsea brooder but it wasn't keeping them warm enough). But I've got one who has started acting strange in a different way. I sometimes appears to trip and other times it gets knocked over when they're racing around the brooder. This duckling then lays on it's back kicking it's legs and can't flip over. If you try turning it over it just flips itself back onto it's back. Eventually it will right itself and then act fine but only after several minutes of struggling on it's back. I've never had this happen before so I don't know what is going on here? Otherwise it seams fine and is eating and drinking well.

I have Save-A-Chick mixed into their water. They're currently on DuMor chick starter with a sprinkle of UltraKibble chick crumbs mixed in. I planned to start sprinkling brewer's yeast on their food in a few days once we stop the electrolytes.

Can you get back to TSC and pick up a bottle of Nutri-Drench, or pick up a bottle of polyvisol without iron? Sounds to me like your duckling needs a vitamin boost, and it won't hurt the rest to start them on it as well. With these problems the quicker you treat the better your chances of success.

My bottle of Nutri Drench says it has iron in it still. What is the problem with iron? I got it for my hens for the iron since we've had some mite problems over this rough winter.

I only mixed 2 oz to a gallon of water since I didn't have a full bottle. They like it though. They drank almost an entire pint jar overnight and dove right in when I refilled it this morning. I'm going to make a run to TSC this afternoon to get a few more bottles so I can keep using it instead of the Save-A-Chick packets.

I'm thinking the reason when people give the poly vi sol it's rec not to get the one with iron is because this is formulated for human babies not poultry but the nutri drench is formulated for poultry so they have the right dosage of iron. Other than that have not a clue.

I get ya. I knew I had heard the name before but didn't remember it was the liquid baby vitamins. I never even thought about those being an option to the animals. Good to know.
