You're hatching some babies? How exciting!

I got some ducklings from Metzer's this spring but they're already two months old. I don't know where the time went; they're sleeping in the big duck house tonight. I do have some of their early cuteness captured though, and I'm always glad to share... too glad, maybe. ;)

Does anybody have mallards and could give me some hints on caring for them.

I am sad because they are not as social as your ducks=( I think its cause they were poorly taken care of in TSC their first few days of life.

There are pictures of these Welsh Harlequins in other threads, but I figured I'd put the new ones here.

Here's our drake front and center. Based on what I've read, he and the one in the rear left are silver phase. The other should be a gold phase.

Our silver phase duck. They're getting their feathers.

Our gold phase which I'm 90% sure is a duck. I hope it isn't a drake or we'll be eating one sooner than we planned.

I have three white mallards! Here's them as babies. After reading a lot of posts on here about mallards, I like to think that they need extra attention and reassurance than most ducks.

Mine are super friendly, however I spend a great deal of time with them. Treats always help with winning them over. Unlike MOST ducks, they hate peas. They enjoy tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and dry cat food.

I would suggest staying low around them, and moving slowly. I normally lay out a blanket and sit while they play around. This way they are accustomed to your presence.

How old are your mallards?
