hi everyone. I bought 3 Cayuga ducklings from rural king the about 3 days ago. Today i refilled their feed bowl( they have water) and about an hour later 2 of them started acting like they were having trouble getting the food down. One stopped and one has just been attempting to drink water since. I saw them acting like that and put them in a tub of water (suggestive drinking) the 2 are swimming around having a good time. The one is still standing in the shallow end attempting to drink water. Every 4-5 sips there’s little stringy clear goo almost that comes out of her mouth. Any help would be great please

What kind of feed did you give them is it crumbled or pellets?
Is your water dish deep enough to dip their entire bill in?

it's possible if their feed dish was empty they just pigged it down so fast they did not take time to drink.
I always try to keep my feeders full for that reason.
They seem to act like they're starving to death if they run out for just a short while and then they eat too fast and about choke themselves before stopping to take a drink.
I've also had individual ones that just tend to eat too fast even if the feeders are full.

I believe you’re correct. I think she ate too fast then got choked and had some issues getting it down. She’s recovered for the most part. No more head shaking or goo. She’s been Laying around a bit more then my other ones , but otherwise seems fine. Drinking and eating fine. I added a little bit of water to their feed to soften it up as well. You are right though, they do seem to think they’re starving to death.

I always just massage it down. The silly ducks always do that and then they act like they're dying, lol
