Duckling question

The paint tray idea is GREAT! right now, I have an 'under bed' tote (I hope that makes sense) that I fill with water for my guys to use & I clean & refill it everyday/other day. They play in it & swim it too. It's just too darn cold to get out there & mess with the swimming pool this time of year. The tote is about 6" deep or so and is big enough for 2 pekin to sqweeze in.
I think you have plenty enough ideas here

I have mallards and ducklings too and I have just spent an hour out there bucketing out sludge, wet hay infused with duck droppings, what a smelly job.
Weve had lots of rain and there was a ditch next to their plastic blow up pond which filled up with water and mud.
OMG Ive never smelt anything as bad, so ive shovelled in wheelbarrow loads of soil to even the area up and their pond is now out of the main run and replaced with shallow pools made out of litter trays etc. Mumma duck has a big pond out on the grass.
The ducklings have the smaller pools now.
Why do ducks love smelly things, i dunno.
The flies loved it and the ducks loved catching the flies.
Im living and learning.

I have Muscovys, Runners and Khakis. They all love the water and Muscovys are ok to swim. They love to wash everyday, they all take turns in the kiddy pool, the mud puddles and the little creek behind the house. i haven'd had any problems with waterlogged Muscovys. You have the watch the ducklings, their down will become to waterlogged, but I still let them wash and swim a bit. Makes them look healthier. I've seen ducks that have been raised without swimming water and their feathers look dry and dirty.
