Duckling questions

Yes I've realized that he will be better off out in the wild when fully grown and he will have a better shot with a rehab center then with me I'll update you later after rehab has picked lucky up :) thank you again for all of you help :)

UPDATE: after calling both rehab centers near me neither one answered and will be keeping the duck for the night and tomorrow... Should I try to raise the duck on my own and keep him while he is an adult and hand him over to a sanctuary or try to keep calling the animal rehab centers ?

@Miss Lydia
@Nickbova
Could you leave a message or did they not have any way to do that?If you raise him to an adult she /he will be mighty lonely without the companionship of another duck. Do you know of a sanctuary in your area? here in NC we have Carolina Water fowl rescue maybe try looking the 2 rehab centers up on line and see if you can contact via email.I hope you can find a place that will take it. Not to say your not doing a good job but for the sake of the duckling is it had other ducklings to grow up with it will be better able to acclimate back into the wild. Your trying your best though.

@Miss Lydia yes I understand I will try to call again now and leave a message if I am able to but I'm not sure they will come today being it is five o'clock now and they close at 7 and we are an hour away from each other so tomorrow I will try again... If I ever wanted to raise ducklings I should purchase domesticated ducks correct ?

Yes domesticate ducks are the way to go, it's actually illegal to have a wild duck without a license but in this case you sure couldn't let it die. another reason the duckling should go to a rehabber. I'm sure Lucky will be fine in your care until you can find a nice safe place to take him.

Once you decide to raise ducks you'll be very surprised how many breeds there are, I'm sure you'll find just the one to suit you and there are also domesticated mallards too.

Any news yet from the closer rehabber?

Good for you already narrowing down your decision on breeds Metzers is a great place to read up and learn. Which ones do you like the best so far?

@Miss Lydia by the time I called the rehabber they were closed so I will call again in a few and find out if they will pick lucky up. I looked on mezter and found the golden 300 hybrid ducks and those are the ones I like the most behind the blue and black Swedish ducks :)
