Duckling thinks I'm her momma

Our duckling Limon is about 9 weeks old now. We lost her sister almost 5 weeks ago. Limon had pneumonia and is recovering.

Limon follows me around like a puppy. I don't mind, but I want her to be a well adjusted duck. We will be buying a duck close to her age, but thought it best to wait until Limon has a full recovery.

Any advice for us?

She'll enjoy having a friend like her. It doesn't necessarily need to be her breed but another duck friend.
They do bond tightly to the only person they know who is caring for them, so when you bring another duckling home it may take a bit of time for Limon to accept another or she might just take to it right off. We just never know with ducks. In the mean time give her a mirror so she can see herself and remember she is a duck.
Great to hear she is recovering!!

I have a muscovy drake that I rescued and resuscitated from deaths door when he was only 2 or 3 days old. He bonded tightly with me and followed me around. I was able to get ducky friends for him (another muscovy drake of the same age and a pekin drake a few weeks older) when he was 6 weeks old and moved him out to the duck house with them at 8 weeks.

He still follows me when I am In the garden and he demands attention from me. (He bites me) he likes to sit by me on the garden steps and be cuddled. He tries to get in the house at any opportunity. But he goes with the flock doing ducky things and is the first in the duck house in the evening.

So I encourage you to get your planned ducky friends for Liman soon. But continue to give Liman attention. Liman may continue to follow you for years, but will still need ducky flock friends.
