Hatched another small batch of ducklings yesterday. One little guy had a problem. Pipped back words and was not progressing. Went ahead and assisted. Today he is small, not walking right, clicking sound when breathes. I also noticed a blueish white spot in each eye. Never seen this before. Tried searching the internet, cant find anything about it. Any ideas? Thanks

It may take a few days to get his legs up under him. If you have some Poultry Nutri drench and he is holding his head up good you might try a couple drops right inside the bill under the tongue just don’t over do. As for the bluish white spot I haven’t ever seen that. Can it see? Sure is precious ❤ @MasterOfClucker have any idea?

You know I dont think he can at least not very well. I took him out by himself stood there peeping like crazy. Grabbed a sibling put her a foot in front of him. Still peeping like mad. It wasnt until she started making noise that we walked to her. Very slowly, shaky, and wide gait. I have seen blind animals walk like that before. I also took him to the water placed his bill in and he happily drank. When I took my had a way he kept missing the water, dipping his bill on the side instead.

The most you can do for now is administer a poultry vitamin either orally with an eyedropper/syringe or you can just dip his bill into the liquid for a second or as @Miss Lydia suggested the sensation of dripping a bit on his bill usually makes them drink a little. Keep him nice and warm and I'd also make sure the other ducklings don't pick on him.

Move your finger slowly towards his eye and watch for a blink or reflex, you can use a flashlight as well. If he doesn't have a reaction to either he may be partially blind.

How do you feel about having a blind duckling if what it ends up being. I’ve heard of a duck with sight bonding to a blind duck. Keeping the food an water always in the same place and you maybe able to train by sound where the feed an water is. Of course once outside if you free range that probably wouldn’t work for one blind. Let’s hope as the days go maybe sight will get better.

He was doing better. I do think he can see but not well. I sold his siblings to a lady who has had a blind rooster. She was very interested in him so I gave him to her. She has more time than I do to look after the little guy. I have her number and was going to check in on him in a week or so. Will post an update.
