I was watering my ducks this afternoon when I noticed one of them had a tiny wound, so I picked it up but once out from under the red light I noticed what appeared to be a swelling around the lower neck and it drools whenever I hold it. I separated it immediately. I have a few photos to show you, any ideas on what is wrong with my duck?

Forgive the sorry looking state of the birds - I think they'd rather swim in their waterer than drink from it.

It's hard to make out the picture for a cyst. It really looks like he got bitten by the others. I would put neosporin on it and let it heal. Minor swelling can be associated with the irritation. Please see a vet, if its swelling gets bigger. Drooling can come from water drinking so I'm not putting much onto this for now. BTW ducks do much better with a blue or white light then the red lamp. It calms them more. Red lamps are good for chicken or quails to name a few.

So after my initial panic I brought in ALL the ducks to take a bath where I noticed that 4 more had the same swelling on the same side of the neck. Then I realized they'd just eaten and after extensive Google searching on the subject of "swollen neck in ducks", the results only confirmed my realization that their crops were full of food.

After their long swim and about an hour or so of rest in a delightfully humid bathroom, and being dried off with a hair dryer (which they LOVED, by the way), I reexamined them and everyone was back to normal.

ETA: after putting them back in their brooder, one of them made what I think was her first quacking noise!

that's a happy ending! I was wondering about the red spot, it might have been a coincidental little pinch.
Glad they're eating well!
Where did your Anconas come from? Can we see pics of the rest?
Congrats on the quack, and GO YOU for being an observant duck mama!

Toadbriar: The red spot is only a pinch. there is no wound to speak of, just an angry red spot. My anconas came from Cackle and I will do a separate post with photos of them.
