Duckling with infected feet.

On a not-so-happy update, I noticed something that is my own fault for not seeing before now. ): His legs are incredibly turned in when he walks, and he seems to have trouble. I've been keeping him more contained trying to keep his feet clean, but put him out in a run yesterday with Kiwi and he was following her around. I already ran to the store and got niacin supplements, so hopefully that works. He's just getting in his wing stalks, think there's enough time for the niacin to fix his legs before he's an adult?
Get him started on them asap.

If he's able to walk thats a good sign.

Thanks for the link! I put some on his food as soon as I got it from the store last night, and I'm going to keep adding it. He's willing to walk sometimes, certainly willing to run (away from me) but his feet are turned in and don't seem to let him balance very well.

I felt so bad when I saw his poor legs, he just makes me sad watching him following Kiwi around. I wish I'd noticed it sooner.

Prognosis is good so don't beat yourself up over it. Let us know when you notice the difference.

Just a quick update, the baby is doing pretty well. The cuts on his feet are almost entirely healed up, his bill scuffs are healing nicely, and he seems more willing to walk around. Whether thats just because his feet are feeling better or a super speedy effect of the niacin supplements, I dont know, but I'm pleased. :) He's still crazy though. And runs from me.

Also, just for the fun of it, here's a couple pictures of the little guy, taken a few days ago.

What a cutie, glad to hear his feet are doing so good. Good work on your part.

An update!

The still sadly nameless baby is pretty much part of the flock now, though Munchkin will still chase him if he gets in the pool with them. He's fully feathered and had his flight feathers clipped already, definitely don't want him ending up in the neighbor's yard with their german shepherd. His legs are still a little wonky and he walks with a limp, but he gets around ok. I've been putting the niacin on the food still but I don't know how much he's getting since he's sharing space and food with the trio now.

The whole group is let out in the yard during the day with a big pool so they can eat whatever they please along with the food provided. It's fenced in and there is cover in case of flying predators, and they seem to like the freedom. But that baby is a PAIN to catch to put in the pen in the evening. He still hates me and has learned where to go to be the hardest to catch. |:<
