In my experience, I have found that ducks take much longer from their first pip to actually hatching. I try to give them at least a day before I intervene to avoid complications.

He had started zipping last night so I thought he was fine

I think he is fine. I had one hatch with a slightly larger navel and it was totally fine and healthy. I’ll see if I can find a photo for you

See that? It’s not unabsorbed yolk and this duckling is doing great now (1 week old)
