Hi guys,

Just wanted to see if anyone who has ever ordered ducklings or chicks by mail have any advice for me? My ducklings arrive tomorrow, hoping to pick them up early tomorrow morning. I have their brooder set up and ready to go. I am super super nervous and hope they are both healthy and ALIVE! If you have any tips for me please let me know! Thank you!

Congrats on your new ducklings that are coming super soon! :celebrate Can't wait to see pics of them!
I pray they arrive safe and sound! :fl

I have ordered ducklings by mail. Do you have any specific questions on it? :)
Thank you! I’m excited! I just hope they arrive safely. We only got two, so my fear is even worse if one were to not make it. It will leave a lone duckling!

Did you give them anything special when you first got them? The farm I ordered them from offers a vitiamn pack to mix in the water. I didn’t get it but read about giving them Pedialyte instead.

I'm not sure what Pedialyte is. I've never used it before.
I just mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a tablespoon of honey into one quart of water and give them that for the first day or two. It boosts their immune system and helps them get off to a good start. :)

Well I have both of those things! So I’ll do that! Thank you!

Where are they coming from? When I ordered from Cackle I ordered 3 they sent 4 so you may get an extra especially this time of year with the weather cooler.
I was thinking the same thing. Part of me hopes they do that, while the other part of me doesn’t because our duck coop isn’t built for 7 ducks!

They’re coming from Metzer Farms in CA! And I’m in PA!

When I order my babies online (6 times I have ordered online chicks)
Thankfully they all arrived alive n well.:celebrate
I always have the playpen ready with 1)heat lamp 2)thermometer 3) waterer with "sav-a-chick" added to it (but as long as they have fresh water for the day until u can get to the store, you should be just fine, I have even had to do just fresh water for 3 days until I could get my additive for their water)
4) chick grit 5)chick feed 6) bedding. So just those 6 things is what I always have ready.... But our poultry supply store is always running out of the additive to chick water, so i stock up when I can.. Because its great to have for a sick chick too:highfive:
Good lick

Do you have Nutri drench you can put a little into their waterer. Also make sure to give them warm water to drink for at least the first week.
I don’t have any additives for their water. But someone above mentioned using honey and Apple cider vinegar and I do have those two things so I’ll try that until I can get to Tractor supply. The warm water tip is good to know! Thank you!
