Ducklings & Duck Question

I have a Question about Ducklings and this could also be pertaining to Ducks too. The Question I have is if I crumble up oats, barley, flax seeds, and whole grains do I have to give the Ducklings grit along with it, or is it fine for the Ducklings to eat without the grit?

LT71689: Yes, I really wanted to make them feed homemade, but as Issac O mentioned that they last nutrients, so I may have to buy a good nutrient duck feed, and crumble.

I would give grit just to be safe. They might be perfectly fine without it but I’d err on the side of
caution especially since a bag of grit is pretty cheap.

ducklings require a smaller grit than the adults of course.

Is this instead of commercial feed?

Yes you need to give chick grit if they eat anything other then feed.

The ingredients you mention may be suitable as a treat, but should not be offered as a whole diet due to the lack of nutrient diversity. If the ducklings are very young, I would personally avoid giving such "grainy" materials until older; if you do, grit should be provided.

Always make grit available to them. Dont mix it in. They will know if they need it and will take it if they do or leave it if they dont. Same with calcium (Seperate - not mixed with food.) Make sure the feed you put together has enough niacin for the babies else you will develop lame ducks.

Im sorry. I never saw this question. For sake of the forum - I augment niacin by crushing 125mg store vitamin niacin and mixing it into 1 gallon of water.
