I have nine 10 day old call ducklings,I had them on towels up until now and tonight I tried putting shavings in the cage with them but they started to eat it straight away ,what should I do ,I covered them up for now

I did the exact same thing you did. I took the towels off after just a couple days and they did nibble on the shavings for a few hours but did eventually stop. I had 17 Saxony and Welsh Harlequin so they were bigger ducks but only a few days old so I would assume your 10 day old call ducks will be fine. They are just being curious little ducks...

I've heard some horror stories this season about numerous ducklings dying and they owners suspeced it was the wood shavings. Because of that, I use straw only and they do very well. The straw allows water to filter down and it keeps the ducklings dry with no worries of them eating harmful shavings that might kill them.
