Hi everyone just thought I’d pop in and show a few pics of my Rouen ducklings first kayak trip...I start of caging them on the kayak and as they grow they eventually go in the water and follow with access to kayak and a cage on it...they are about two weeks old right now..we live right on a river so access is there ducks have a run and river time supervised...we are avid kayakers and go often...

I didn’t let them go in river yet mainly just because I live in NW Ohio Cloverdale on the Blanchard River and with all the rain the water is still a bit high and the current quite fast..normal people probably wouldn’t even go right now :gigespecially since get in and out spot same so either way you have to paddle against the current and it’s ripping rn..way too fast for 2 wk olds ...I do let them play in a tub..and I splashed them when we were out and they enjoyed that :)...we have a bit more rain expected so probably be another week or so probably more like two till I can get some actual river time with them..I’m not below swimming in the river either so once it warms up I’ll be out there frolicking with them:ya I’m a summer gal lol hate winter wanna move back to Texas but don’t think I can tak bf into it until at least retirement sooo 10 more years maybe :hmm

Oh I will for sure!! We will probably go this weekend for a bit they’ll still be caged but I am going to take em out and put em in the boat with me and have a screen mesh around me so they can’t jump out river still be fast and only in the sixties so no water time yet but I’ll definitely post some pics...I’ve already got them trained to follow me and respond to Duck Duck (that’s the easy part)the real tests will be in the water when the time comes...we have a sand bar down a bit and that’s probably where we will do that the first few times ...and yeah snapping turtles we also have some eagles and red tails but they stay away from us and I have a bright yellow boat that helps too I’ve always taken my animals on the water with me I even had a few river rats yes actual rats :gig...I’ve been lucky and never had an issue but I do realize the threat is there...the good thing I think is with starting them so young and teaching them they become more aware of predator threat...and I’m there and often others at least one more boat usually which keeps them at bay..they won’t get unsupervised river time that’s just asking for trouble...

Awww :love thank you!! I’ve always loved animals and been very close with them I’m always the one rehabilitating wildlife birds squirrels chipmunks even a couple raccoons taking in others unwanted and either keeping or finding a forever home...training or teaching animals has always been easy for me and my number one love is birds all birds!! Rn I have 16 chickens and four ducks lol...I want to get into peafowl eventually and possibly a goose...I’m addicted...but there’s something special about ducks for me we both LOVE the water!! I could swim before I could walk swimming team from 5 yrs old to 17..and former lifeguard...so my obsession with ducks is quite obvious to those who know me lol..in the summer I’m on the water a lot even if just from the bank fishing and swimming a bit...alotta people think I’m crazy what I can get animals to do.the obsession I have with them (specially birds lots think their nasty and how can I stand to have a bird s**t on me)..and how many I have...One of the reasons I love this site so much besides all the wonderful info is the like minded people!!
