What does it mean when a ducklings yellow fur starts to thin?????

I'm not sure i understand, as the PP said do you mean as the down become feathers, they can look pretty ragged at this staging. How old are the ducklings and the breed, any pictures to show us what your meaning?

Well it depends. Is theire whitre feathers underneath the yellow lair? I know that if skin is showing then that is a bad sign usually. Maybe it has a bug? I really would recomend taking it to the vet. If you just want to wait it out I would recomend puting a probiotic in its water. The sell it in pultry stores usualy. Another Question do you have other ducks? The loss of feathers could also mean it might be being picked on by the others. Obserbe the behavior. If your Duck is also lerthogic it probly sick.

Gracewren-- how old is your duckling? Breed? My Pekins ducklings, 2 weeks old, have been losing the yellow all week, this evening I noticed there are white feathers growing in. Mine might be a little early, it seems early to me anywAy, but their moms have had them outdoors a lot so that might be why. So if you are brooding them under a light they may feather a bit more slowly.

It's not that bad but I'm just freaking out cause I love them so much! I've checked them out myself and I didn't see any bugs could it be that the lamp is too close cause their skin is dry

They are Perkins and I got them for Easter at a hardware store and they live indoors until they get bigger they look to be about two weeks

Oooh, youch! Please make sure the lamp is up and away from them. We have had a few episodes of well-meaning duck parents leaving the lamp too low, trying to keep the ducklings warmer but hurting the ducklings.

Get a thermometer to keep in the brooder so you'll know the temperature - very important. Also, when I wanted more heat, I turned on a second (or even a third) lamp, not moving the lamp closer to the ducklings. I know the latter is recommended by some, but it can have a bad effect at a certain point.
