Hello ya’ll
I been planting some large ornament grasses and I just purchase some cold hardy 4’ high Bamboo plants which I just planted in the large duck aviary . my question is this will the ducks try to eat the leave of the bamboo plant or not , I don’t have any ducks in there aviary as yet but trying to set it up to look as natural as possible with large greenery grasses , some bamboo plants and maybe some cattail plants along with dead tree trunks sitting upside down and some logs along with growing grass on the ground base also I place a 18" deep totaling 300 gallon mini pond in there aviary for swimming .

So my question is this will the bantam ducks eat the bamboo leave or even kill the plants .

Thanks Alan

Don't have ducks, but have bamboo and chickens, peacocks and turkeys. They all love bamboo leaves. They don't bother the shoots or the culms, just the leaves. All of them eagerly jump up as high as they can if they think they can get a low hanging leaf. Kind of a good thing because the result is a neatly trimmed look from the ground up to about 3 feet high, which shows off the culms very well.

I would be confident the ducks would love bamboo leaves as well. They are just giant grasses.. As long as the bamboo will send shoots that grow above the duck's highest reach, they should do fine. One thing I do wonder is if geese would destroy the shoots as they come up with their love of chewing things?

I also suspect the fertilizer from duck poop will do wonders for the bamboo. I lived in the city for a year, brought my ducks and geese there. The house I moved in had a very poor lawn.. when I moved out, the whole yard was very green.. thanks to the ducks and geese pooping all over it all the time lol...

Thanks Kev

I just might have to rap them up with some type of chicken and poles so they can't get them until they reach as lease 5 ' high or so - the one 's I plant are suppose to grow 8 ft. in height.... which the aviary is about 10’ high at the highest point . so I guess I will just have to see what happens

Again Thanks for ur input

Alan
