ducks and chickens

they can free together but they may have to be in different coops at night.

I keep my ducks and chickens in the same coop at night. As far as getting along I do not have any problems. I am however reconsidering this on account of the mess the ducks make in the 10 or so hours they are in the coop at night. My chckns are relatively clean. They pretty much poop under their roost and don't really make much of a mess. If your don't mind a full coop clean up every week (depending on how many ducks your have and how big your coop is) then try it and see how they do. I did not have any "personality conflicts"

I hope this helps with your decision.

Well........We have 2 pekin ducks(one male/one female) and 4 buff orphin. hens raised together since day 2 - and now since the drake pekin has come of "age" he is busy mating with the female pekin and 2 of the hens. One of the hens has almost all of her neck feathers pulled out from when she hasn't been able to escape his "attentions" and the other hen refuses to come down from the loft area(because she won't run from the drake) if the pekin drake is nearby so if you won't run, then hide is her philsophy.
They all share a common run and co-op from day one but now..........what to do.....if there was just a way to deter the drake but I guess I'll have to seperate them now which will upset the female duck immensely. Hmmmmmmmm

I've got my three adult ducks, a drake and two hens, in the coop with my laying hens and one rooster. They started out free ranging together last summer and the duck moved into the coop when it started getting below zero this winter. Haven't had any problems although the rooster isn't the boss, the drake is. My duckling is in the house with my Silkie chicks and was raised with one of them from day 1. The two of them are inseparable. I'm not sure if the duck thinks it's a chicken or the other way around.

I'm planning on keeping mine together....they already are sharing the brooder together. I have a couple chicks now (an EE and a Speckled Sussex) that have picked up some very duckling-like habits like playing in the waterer

. Its a challenge keeping an area dry for everyone but they are too cute when they all sleep in one big pile.
