Ducks and Chickens

Just in case they start fighting, Do ducks and chickens fight? Not sure what breeds.

Yes sometimes ducks and chickens fight. I once had a Muscovy drake who decided that he should kill all of my RIR - he did not last long.

An important thing to remember is that if a drake attempts to mate a chicken (which they sometimes will) he could kill her. Roosters and Drakes have very different anatomy and a hen can sustain internal injuries from being mated by a duck. Our male duck would try and fight our hens and also try and mate with them. For some reason he always went after our only silkie hen. Our female duck was fine and did not try and fight. We kept the ducks penned away from the chickens, but they were taken by a bobcat. We are getting a different breed of duck this time (they were Pekin) and one boy with several girls instead of just a pair. Hopefully he'll be too busy with his ladies to bother the chickens.

We've kept ducks and chickens in the same yard for 3 years and most of the time they don't even acknowledge each others' presence, unless the drake chases down a duck to mount her. Two of our NH Reds and an EE have made it their job to protect the 'poor' duck and start pecking at the drake and rearing up to fight until the drake runs away. I've seen this happen 3 time in the last 3 weeks and each time the drake takes flight and the yard settles down. The girls have to protect one another!

My chickens, Golden Comets from TSC have started to attack my 9 week old ducks, my drake in particular. Any suggestions? they sleep in the same coop together, however when let out into a larger dog kennel, outside area, the chickens attack. Only that one breed. My poor ducks just run, and usually they can get away, but the chicken wouldn't let up last time i looked. So i resulted in letting the ducks be out and about and then they are all free ranged when i get home from work at noon. should i just relocate my ducks? or keep trying let it work it's self out. I see so many posts of people having their ducks and chickens together.
