Hi there! so i'm new to this site and all but i wanted to ask about ducks and chickens! i have six chickens and had two female ducks but just recently one of the two passed away! :( my remaining hen is only around three years old and even though they interact and sleep whith the chickens they don't stick together!so now im worried that our duck might become depressed, plus we have a lot of birds of prey around and i'm worried that they'll go after her while she's alone! will she bond to our chickens? or do we need another duck?

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry to hear you lost a duck :hugs Sorry but I'm not a duck person but I would think getting another duck would be best for her. She may be in mourning for her lost friend I'm quite sure they feel the loss. Drop by the duck section though for all the duck chat, I'm sure the experts will be able to help you. Here is the link https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks

Wishing you the very best of luck in the future and enjoy BYC :frow

It is always hard to lose a beloved bird. I haven't raised ducks before, but think that getting one or two more ducks would be a good idea.

I agree you should get your hen another friend but, would consult the duck folks first. They would best know if you should get one about the same age or younger. I don't know if ducks have a strong pecking order like chickens. But the duck folks should know if you will have integrations issues, adding a new duck. Sorry about the hen you lost.

Welcome to BYC!

I'm so sorry about your duck loss. Animals do form attachments to their companions, so your remaining duck is probably feeling lonely See what the duck members have to say.

Hope everything from here on out goes well for you. Good luck!
