Oh yeah thats a good idea dad says the same thing! I dunno my ducks are crazy haha they like that stuff my Muscovies ate some fish i had throw out to the ducks after our catch! That surprised me. Lol yeah me too its just too expensive and they always seem to still make a mess lol yeah i fell face first into the snow yesterday lol and all my ducks laughed at me - well i laughed too.
They also have a lot of good supplements from Foys pigeons supply. They been around a long time. I cant wait for the weather to warm so i can give them all a nice warm bath. Er they can bathe themselves. Haha

why is it that I don't hear much about kakicambells. I have 6 of them. 6 pekins and 2 runners. they r all laying right now. I have been getting about 9 eggs per day. I had heard that kakis are one of the best layers around. I am thinking of getting 6 more plus 6 more pekins. any ideas on other good layers?

Khaki Campbells are the best layers, but Pekins are good also and I think lay larger eggs. I feel for everyone who is battling the awful snow and low temperatures you are having over there. Here it is constant rain. We are getting increasingly muddy, the 'suck your wellie off' type of mud. The ducks are looking decidedly bedraggled but all I can do is put more straw down in the pens and houses. I count myself very fortunate that I am not dealing with frozen water etc as you are, and I wish you and your ducks good health throughout this cold snap.

Initially they were a fairly mixed color breed but later an emphasis was placed on the current khaki color. It is interesting that at the same time the khaki color was being bred into the Campbell, there was a patriotic fervor for the British troops fighting the Boer War who also wore the khaki color. Once the "Khaki" was attached to "Campbell", the breed gained even more popularity. The Khaki Campbell gained even more renown due to the egg laying contests where it averaged up to 39 more eggs laid than the second best breed. One Khaki Campbell laid 346 eggs in 365 days while another laid one egg a day for 225 straight days!

Khaki Campbells gained even more notoriety with the standards established by the Jansen family of Holland who had up to 50,000 ducks laying at a time with egg production averages of 335-340 eggs in 365 days during the 1950s. They started in production at about 20 weeks of age and egg size averaged 72 grams (2.6 ounces). Mortality during growth and their first year of egg production was only 2.5%. Interestingly, each duck was penned in its own pen and shelter which surely contributed to their outstanding production. Eventually the Jansen flock was dispersed but the Khaki Campbell tradition was carried on by the Kortlang family in England who still breeds them. John Metzer has visited the Kortlang farm and our Khaki Campbells have some Kortlang blood in them. - Metzer Farms

Also runner ducks are said the the most productive of egg layers but i guess Campbell's are becoming the most productive. I hope this helps!

Pekins are good and lay decent. It all depends on what you like and what you want them for. The breeds i have are more considered multi purpose breeds so are not in the too layers but dont lay bad for big ducks- in my opinion. But i am no expert. Hahaha

Hahha i dont know why but the "suck your wellie off" mud made me laugh thank you! Im up way earlier than i should be before work. Hahaha i needed that thank you!
Anyways lol yeah thats- just as bad in my opinion cause your birds look like drowed rats.can be Constantly feather logged poor things yeah maybe try pallets down the board with hay on top which is what i did to give them a safe haven from the cold ground. But the best part is they are stuck in the ground now lol uhggg! But maybe try that and see if it helps . I am sorry you gotta deal with that. I hope it gets better for you!
