Ducks are cute, but....should I??

Before I decided on ducks vs. chickens I also kept reading how hardy ducks are. That hasn't been my experience, although I know they aren't susceptible to some diseases that chickens are. In 9 months I've had splay leg, two cases of bumble foot, two hurt or sprained legs, eye infection, and a mystery skin disease that had me in the vet many times. There are lots of potential issues with ducks, just like chickens, so don't let that factor influence you too much.

That is true, but I think you have also had unusually bad luck too. Despite the excellent care you take of them.

Probably - except for my current case of bumble foot everything has happened to my pekins, which I know are raised for harvest at 8 weeks

No interest in getting males (chickens or ducks- roosters are not allowed in my town) so would just be females I'll start with just chickens I think and then see what happens..!
