Ducks, bedding and water

Hi there,

I have 2 khaki campbells in a small crate. The ducks are about 2 weeks old. The crate is 2x3 ft and 2 ft high. When I got the ducks, I put a small dish with water in and they sat in it, splashed it out, and drank some of it.

So I replaced the dish with a gravity fed waterer (made up word?). The waterer holds about 2 qts. The ducks have emptied it 2x today and the 2 or 3" of bedding is soaking wet again.

I know ducks shouldn't be standing on a wet floor. What should I do?

This picture was taken before I replaced the dish. I also put the lid on one side of the crate so they can get out of the light if they want.
I have a Crested that is 9 days old, a Black East Indie and Khaki Campbell that are 5 days old.

In the brooder I have them on puppy pads, they have a gravity waterer also. Last night all three of them started playing in the water and soaked the whole brooder. I cleaned up and put the water container in a 1" deep baking dish to try and catch the mess. The three stinkers did it again, they emptied their water container into the larger dish, then played in that until it was sloshed all over the brooder. I had to clean the brooder again, but it was fun to watch them play:)

I use a gallon milk jug with a hole cut in it or a cool whip container with a hole cut in the top. Everyday I would have them swim in the sink. They were such a mess inside. But that is the way ducklings are.

Hi all,

Thank you for the advice. I got a Cool Whip container and cut out a hole for them to put their head in. It works much better. The ducks still insist on getting water everywhere but the bedding made it a whole day without being soaked.
