Hi
I have two Black East Indies ducks, a drake and a female, I'd say there just over a year old. The female began laying eggs in February then in June/July time she made herself a nest under the tree at the bottom of my garden up on a ledge, and sat on a clutch of at least 10 eggs. Unfortunately the eggs did not hatch, as they were all rotten. I was lead to believe it may have been because of the poor nesting material where she had chosen to make the nest, after removing the eggs when I was certain they were rotten, I cleaned the area and cut it of so she was not able to get back on the ledge, as the area seemed unclean, and unfit to nest.
After I did this, my female stopped laying eggs and I believed this was due to the end of season. Although, I woke up this morning to find in their hut, the female has made her self a nest and laid an egg, which was a big surprise. So my question is, is there any possibility she will lay enough to make another clutch, or is this a one of? She doesn't seem interested yet, but the clutch is not big enough for her to sit on, although the drake has been very temperamental with me, and has not done this for a while since she stopped laying.
