Ducks being stubborn or is it me??

I don't let them out. Would they stay close by?? I live in a neighborhood and don't want to be chasing them all over the place. I don't have a fenced in yard. I am all about letting the have more room but is this something that can be done without too much stress on me? I can definitely change the crate to an enclosed dog house.
Or you could a tarp or something over the dog crate so that it's dark for the to lay

One of the four walked up to it and ran away. It will definitely take a minute. It does have shaving in the bottom of it as well. I haven’t seen any changes other than when I fill up their pool they run to the side of the dog house rather than in it like they did with the crate.
Whenever we introduce something new they think it’s so scary. They’ll eventually go in.

These are some pics from today. Dog house they don’t really care for (see the pic of the girls standing on the opposite side, 2 feed options (do ducks care if it is a bowl or the fancy feeder?) and them wandering the yard first thing today.

I still think they just need time with the dog house. I don’t think they care what their feed is in so whatever works for you is good. Do they like wandering the yard?

I’ve been getting them out every morning to wander the yard. Kinda funny that they always run back every few minutes to see if I’ve opened the door as I close it to make them wander. They don’t seem to want to be far from their cage. I don’t have to track them down. Hope that doesn’t change.

That’s kind of how mine are, they’re too scared to go too far. They rarely leave my yard and if they do they’re at my neighbors sunbathing haha.

I have been getting them out every day for at least an hour. Expanded their cage to add a bigger pool. The doghouse is home to one duck that lays their egg inside everyday but that is all I’m getting. Is she being possessive of the dog house and not letting the other ducks lay there? I initially got 2 eggs I believe from the 2 Khaki Campbell ducks now just one is laying. Been a couple weeks now and it has been pretty constant one egg everyday.

I haven’t had issues with one duck being possessive of a laying spot. My ladies take turns in the same nesting box, we have 2 and they like using the same one. Could they be laying eggs while they’re out free ranging? I wasn’t getting eggs for a while and my kids found eggs under a bush and I had no clue they were laying there.
