Ducks broken leg?

How do you tell if a duck has a broken leg
Welcome to BYC. Feel each bone and compare it to the one on the other leg:

Welcome @tpehrson12

If a bone is broken, it is painful and swollen and the nearby joints have reduced movement. If the break is close to a joint, the joint may not move at all. A duck will not want to walk on a broken leg. if it is very painful, the duck may lose appetite and not want to eat.

What has happened to your duck that concerns you it's leg might be broken?

2 days ago my daughter came in the house and told me the duck had a hurt foot, he was laying in the snow when I walked towards him he started limping away not putting his weight on one of his legs, his leg doesn't seem swollen compared to the other one, he dose appear to be missing his due claw and rear toe,

Seems that he got caught on something and lost those claws. The pain from that would be enough to make him limp. Please just keep the wounds clean and perhaps spray with plastic skin as a dressing would get very mucky very quickly on a duck's foot.

Thank you for your response, i have been worried about him, he has since developed an eye infection our local vet is booked out a month so I am having to wing it.

Terramycin eye ointment works good on irritations and infections of the eyes.

Look up on line saline rinse for eyes and use it too. make sure he has a bucket deep enough to wash his face off.

:welcome

For an eye infection please bath the infected eye with luke warm saline solution. You can make it up with 1 teaspoon [5mls] salt in 1 cup of previously boiled and cooled water.

Use cotton wool balls or squares of old but clean cloth

Dip the cotton wool or cloth into the saline solution and wipe the eye from one side to the other, gently.

Take a cotton wool ball or piece of fabric and repeat until all the gunk is wiped away. If you have a small clean syringe [3 ml or smaller] you can then irrigate the eye by squirting the saline solution over the previously wiped clean eye.
Use tetracycline eye ointment [from your supermarket or pharmacy] after cleaning the eye.
You will need to do this at least twice each day until the eye is definitely clearing up. then you can drop back to once a day

Its easiest if you wrap the duck in an old towel so that you can then hold him/her against your body with one arm, and hold the head with your hand. Use your other hand to wipe the eye and flush it with the syringe.

Good luck
