Sorry for your loss but appreciate so much getting back about the experience it will help someone else who may have that decision to make to mix chickens and ducks. .A long overdue follow up here:
The ducks did NOT decide they liked the coop. Instead, I made them a separate house on the ground. That worked very well until one of the ducks disappeared (was eaten presumably) during the day one day. The lone duck suddenly was very willing to get in the house at night rather than sleep out alone.
He did eventually start to "bother" the chickens, though, so he had to be rehomed. Just chickens now in our coop, and how much easier to deal with! I'll never mix ducks and chickens again. If I have ducks again, they'll have their own house and their own pen!
