Ducks during summer

I have an in ground pond and a kiddie pool. The in ground pond gets changed every day or every other day and the kiddie pool almost every day. Keep in mind that the sun will turn your pond colors along with the stuff the ducks leave in there. If you can place the kiddie pool in the shade it will likely be better.

I also spray my ducks with the hose (we have well water so I can use water all day) and they love it!! I'll do it several times a day and wet down the ground to make puddles for them to stand or lay in. I also freeze powerade bottles full of water. The ducks LOVE to lay against them to cool off. I have about 30 bottles (yes, we drink a LOT of powerade instead of pop in the summer) so I'll have 10-15 bottles in the freezer while the others are being used.

I have a variety of kiddie pools, water buckets and I have a mist system with several nozzles I use during the heat. We also put the sprinkler on the lawn where they are when its hot. Although it gets hot here, with plenty of water and lots of shade, they do ok. I can't imagine keeping ducks without water to play in.

As for them drinking their wastes, it is what ducks do. Keep the water reasonably clean, but don't stress over it. Dump your kiddie pool on your landscaping and tell your landlord you are fertilizing his plants! Watered down duckie wastes work great on grass and bushes. Probably not directly on veggies though, not clean enough.
