I have an 11 x13 ft enclosure for my three Perkins (4 months old) there is a pool, a duck house, drinking water, and a feeder in the enclosure. In the back corner is the compost heap where I put the dirty hay when I clean out the house. I let the ducks out for a couple hours a day to wander around the yard but prefer to have them in the enclosure most of the time. The problem is I find them chilling on top of the compost heap often. Is that okay? Is it sanitary? Are they going to start laying their eggs in the compost heap?

I also have questions about when they start to lay eggs but I'm going to post a new thread about that.

The compost pile may be generating heat that they find to be comfortable if it is cool in your locality.
