Ducks made a nest

I'm new to ducks, and have had a trio of Rouens for a couple weeks now. We moved them into a new pen with a deep layer of shavings. The next morning I went out and they had made a large deep nest, and they've been laying in that nest everyday since. I didn't think anything of it, and have been gathering the eggs everyday, as I just assumed that's what all ducks do. (Make a nest to lay their eggs in).

Now I'm wondering, are they trying to go broody? Or is it normal for them to dig themselves a nest if they don't have a lay box for them to lay in? I have 4 days worth of duck eggs on my counter, so if I put those 8 eggs back, will one of them possibly decide to set on the eggs once she feels she has enough?

Mine did. I left the eggs until she had a dozen. I realized she had no intention of sitting on them. She still lays in it. I am no expert but I think it's just what they do.
