Ducks mouth open.

One of my pekin ducks always has her mouth open. She’s eating and drinking and seems just fine. We live in swfl so it is hot but she’s always doing it.

Ducks in general have a much higher internal temp (around 106) compared to humans, they are wearing a down coat 24/7 and pekins being much larger than many other breeds overheat faster in general. Ducks do not sweat so they pant to cool themselves down along with bathing and you may also notice them sitting more often in the shade during the day than normal.

Yes they are always in the shade and I give them a pool of fresh water daily.

My Pekins do this too on really hot days.
