Ducks not Bathing

If they are not fully feathered you have to be momma and take them out before they can catch a chill. If they are fully feathered than they will regulate themselves. Its just like when you have kids you can't wait for them to start walking but once they do sometimes you wish they would just sit still. Kind of like ducks its fun until you have a mudpuddle the size ot an olympic pool that they made fomr their tiny baby pool...obviously exaggerated a bit but sometimes it comes close

So even though they big enough, and want more water. They should still have really shallow water? And let me get this right, when their down/feathers get supper soaked thats water logged, right? Like as I said I gave them 2 inches of water, then they wanted more, then they got the their *feathers* wet, but they wanted out so I took them out and they dryed themselves out on their own, within minutes. Am I doing something wrong?

No that's fine. :) I raised 12 calls and I had the bottom of a large kennel in their brooder with the water bowl in it. They made their own swimming pool since the beginning. Despite my efforts to stop them  Ducklings are so hard to control when it comes to water and messiness. I kicked them out at week 4. They were not getting water anymore! They had to go outside and get in the big duck pool :p They did...

Can you make it easier for them to get in the pool? I put logs around my pool until they learned how to fly from an acre away into the pool - though I doubt your pekins will ever master that art!

You wouldn't get much out of those calls

Is there an easy way for them to get in the water? HA! Not easy enough! When I put the temporary kiddie pool in with my guys they were clueless as to how to get in...they didn't take the hint from the wide shallow stairs leading in.

For AOXA with the Calls who won't get in dirty water, I am amazed (and jealous). My 4-pack requires bribery to get in clean water! Of course that could be due to their having been attacked by 30 seconds of rain a week ago....
