I have 2 ducks sitting on one nest. They have always lived together with one male. Is this very common?

I didn't have a ton of ducks, but once had two ducks sharing duties on one nest, apparently the drake was directing who would sit on the nest, and when. a year later I had sold one of those two, and the remaining two, had separate nests. One whole nest turned not to have viable eggs, so that duck took over the other duck's nest, and hatched and raised the babies as her own. So, bottom line, the drake or perhaps the ducks can orchestrate sharing of a nest, and/or completely separate, a more dominant duck could decide to take over a nest. Just in my limited experience.I have 2 ducks sitting on one nest. They have always lived together with one male. Is this very common?
