I'd like to know what are some basic rules when it comes to keeping ducks and chickens in the same flock. I have 4 Pekins (two are 3 months old and the other two are 2 months), 4 Mallards (a month old) and about 20 chickens (I'll slaughter some soon). They all go along well. I keep them all outside on a big yard. It has no grass though they seem to forage fine.
I have one rusty boiler cut in half for the ducks to bathe in but my main problem is when they use the water from the two tires cut in half and one bigger bowl. Then the chickens have to drink from them.

I gave up a long time ago trying to keep fresh water for my chickens my ducks muck up every bucket ever waterer I have out and the chickens just take it in stride. It's not going to change unless you separate them all. I have no way of doing that and my chickens don't seem none the worse for it. I put out a lot more buckets and waterers than necessary but they all get mucked up.

Same here. And all I have is tiny Calls. The only "chickens only" bucket is the nipple waterer. They do have a ten by four foot (totally estimated there) inflateable kiddie pool that I deflated though, and the chickens seem to prefer to drink out of the bathwater.
