Ducks with Chickens?????

GUESS WHAT! you are just like me! i have 6 chickens, i decided to get 2 ducks, both are girls and are saxony ducks, i was worries at first but i put them together and they are now all best buds. i feed my ducks the same stuff as i feed my chickens i just put it into a bowl of water for the ducks to sofen it. i have a big chickens house and a built on run so the ducks like to sleep outside and the chickens sleep outside on the perch or inside, it is up to them, but the ducks have never ones tryed to go inside so i leave them in the run, they are quite happy there

Agree with all of the above, except that I don't feed my ducks and chickens the same food. The ducks and geese get a food formulated for waterfowl.

And yes - ducks are extremely messy! They adore water and make a huge mess with it. I think they need way more room than chickens do. If they are in too small of an area, they will turn it into a big, nasty mud pit.

That said - I love my ducks and if I had to choose between the ducks and chickens, the chickens would go.

I have 12 chickens and 12 ducks. They share a coop that is really a stall - about 10 x 10. The ducks sleep in the corner on the floor together. Like another poster, I have no water or food (they must have water with their food) in the coop. With bedding in there, it's not so bad. Their yard is very big, so I have a small kiddie pool that I move around and fill up for them and they LOVE it. They are fun to watch. Everyone seems to get along great, but then I got them all as chicks/ducklings at the same time.

i think we would keep our chickens... we adore them and the ducks bring a high water bill!

How many ducks and chickens have you got anyway????? and what type..have you had them science they were ducklings and chicks or not??
