Ducks with Eye Issues

Just a quick follow-up. My Pekin duck's eye is wide open and all the scabs and crusty stuff is off the area around it. Same with the neck. All scabs off and it's healing well. Feathers coming in! YAY. Leg joint right above the foot is still swollen and scabby. Haven't decided yet to try anything or let that heal naturally. I'm sure he'd like to walk normally.

Basically I just kept spraying a blend of aloe vera and colloidal silver on his eye, neck and foot. Easiest thing to do as he's not very compliant or tame. Hubs is building a large coon-proof duck hutch and we'll be putting Pekin and my other injured duck into the hutch. Hope they get along! I'm sure they'll be happy to have a pool to swim in and a large area to walk around in again. Appreciate all the suggestions!

Glad to hear his eye is doing better!

Is this the same duck with the swollen leg? I believe I talked to you earlier this spring, regarding a duck with a swollen leg, I suggested antibiotic, did it work?

I believe that was the injured female. She still limps but is in her own hutch for now. I checked out the antibiotic but it is too expensive for now. The Pekin's leg looks really odd like bites? I will take a pix today & post.

Ok, I checked that foot/leg just now and was able to pull off the big ugly scabs that had formed and caused the joint to swell up. Some really ugly stuff was in there and some puss too. I got them all off and all the junk cleaned out. Then I filled the holes several times with hydrogen peroxide and finally sprayed it all down with colloidal silver. I think that'll be good now and it'll heal. He was really calm during the entire procedure! I have no idea how he got injured. Almost looked like teeth marks.

Do you have any antibiotics? That is very far progressed, too far for hydrogen peroxide to be effective.

I do have antibiotics from times our cats needed it. Never had to give them to a duck. First time for everything eh?
