I agree. The ash was basic PH like lye. It stripped the oils, it will just take time. Make sure that have a warm place to sleep at night. I had this happen when mine discovered the sewer sprayer and I didn't figure it out for a few days until I caught them playing in it. So they were playing in bleach water every day. It took 2-3 weeks for them to get back to water resistant.

Do you think adding a cup or so of apple cider vinegar to their pool water might help neutralize whatever might still be stuck to them? It's been about a month of poor soggy ducks.

It won't hurt. Might solve your need to do something . I know that feeling. I think this is just a time thing. They won't look right until they molt so you will just have not so pretty ducks for a while. As long as they don't look cold, they will sort themselves out. As long as they are eating, drinking, pooping and playing I wouldn't worry.

I think I can see some of them shivering today. The temp says 48 but their water was frozen when I went to let them free range. What can I do? They aren't roaming around or free ranging; they came out of their pen and just hunkered down together and tucked their faces in to their backsides. They still aren't water proof and they look COLD so I'm afraid to give them more than just a little water to dunk their bill in. I really need advice. I'm starting to think maybe I should rehome them to somebody with a better, more enclosed barn.
