Ducks won't go in coop at night

Thank you! I’m hoping to get more of a routine soon. They also were pissed when I cleaned out the coop today and made them get out. Make up your mind quackers!

Do they have a favorite treat? My ducks will do anything for peas. You can train them to come when they're called using treats. Just choose a word or call that you only use when you have treats, then say it over and over while you feed them treats. Soon, when you call them they will know you have treats and come running. If they get into the habit of getting treats in their coop at night, they may even go in on their own to wait for their treats.

How funny. My girls go right in for peas, Mazuri food, dried mealworms and oyster shell. They actually follow me into the barn to get fed.

Mine know “bed time” means “go in the coop or so help me...!” Haha. No, they’re good, bed time waS the phrase I used and I always gave them extra special treats when they’d go in, so even the more shy ones were willing to follow to get some of the goodies. And now the older one has taught the babies and all I have to do is walk towards my older girl, say bed time, and in she goes, and the other 2 follow her right on in. :)

Agree with the others. Routine is key. Mine have their big meal at night so they go in pretty easily. It’ll take time, but your ducks will get easier. Miss Lydia is right. No matter how frustrated you can get you have to keep very calm.
