I am planning on getting a pair of mallards soon and I was wondering if they could stay in the same pen with with my chickens if i put a kiddy pool in there or would it be better to have them by thereselves in a cage with hogwire as the fencing the hogwire is about 4.5 feet tall would they be able to fly over that? Would they be able to get through the squares in the hogwire?

It's really up to you.
Chickens and ducks can exist pretty harmoniously, you just have to watch your chickens around water-they can't swim AT ALL and can drown in a kiddie pool.

You may also want to put the chickens' water up and away a bit from the ducklings, who will helpfully put things in the water, making it a little murkier than the chickens may prefer.

bwaaahhh. I don't care who ya are, that's funny right there!

The mallards will fly!

I have both chickens and ducks in the same area but I don't allow swimming inside. Too messy... I have an area set up for just water and that is how I am dealing with the mess the birds + water creates. Remember that the ducks need water to be deep enough so that they can blow out their nose.

When I had a run.... I had swimming pool out there (hoping to get that back up as soon as it gets warm). Chickens ignored it but the ducks LOVED it!!!
