Dumb cluck RIR

I was having a lunch break outside watching my girls when all of a sudden my dumb cluck RIR came running out from the bushes with a 2" black wadded up thing. She was very excited about it, so of course the other chickens gave chase.

I was a little grossed out but also curious what she'd found. It just looked like a dead, rotten something gross. So I got close enough (she's pretty skittish PLUS she had a treat) to see what it was.

That dumb bird had a nasty old latex balloon that had probably been buried in dirt for ages. I could not get it away from her. That stupid dummy!!

They are so funny - they find ANYTHING unusual and act like they jsut hit the jackpot! They'll fight over it until finally they all have a chance to get it and figure out it isn't food.

Hope nobody actually swallowed it!

I hope so, too. She wouldn't let me near her but I doubt she coudl get any of it into her. Watchign her try to break it into smaller pieces was at least a little funny.
