Or is that me pretending? WHTMHE?
I have lost over 100 birds (six were ducks) to foxes this year and more last year. This happened to me two weeks ago. I heard a strange noise from my chickens early in the morning. I went outside to see what caused the disturbance and a fox got into the coop. One chicken down. I opened the coop/ the run on two sides to give the chickens a chance to flee. But they didn’t. I saved a chick that was in the run and and managed to chase the fox out. The fox was afraid of me and panicked. The stupid animal left with his tail between his legs. When (s)he got out (s)he ran away full speed.
How the fox got in: We have strong netting for birds of pray on the roof and upper part of the run . The fox probably got on the roof of the coop and has been chewing on the netting and on a 5 mm thick tension chord for quit some time. (S)He managed to make an opening around sunrise and jumped in when the automatic door opened and the first chicken entered the run. (S)He couldnt get out the way (s)he came in.
We have killed one fox so far, but we also have around five families of them in our area.
