No, taking its head off definitely took it out way faster than the chickens would have. The chickens would have run it down and smashed it repeatedly against the ground, breaking its bones and smashing its skull. A horrible -- if natural -- way to go.
Beheading was definitely faster.

Plus there is no way it was still alive after the beheading. It was probably just muscle spasms.
