Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Majority of folks have always been like that

You're probably right. Depressing, isn't it? I think I didn't notice because my parents were that way (ex-husbands, too), so I thought it was normal, even though I wasn't entirely comfortable with that lifestyle. But, now that I'm older and all of those influences on my life are gone, I seem to have reverted to being like my paternal grandmother's family, who were Quaker settlers; simple farmers with basic needs. My mother would be horrified to see me now! Back in the 1980's, we got a big family van and my mother's reaction was, "Oh my god, my daughter drives a truck." If she could only see me now, in my 14 year old GMC Sonoma pick 'em up, with peeling clear coat and chicken stickers all over the tail gate .. not to mention a bed filled with 50lb bags of organic chicken feed. And, the chickens!! Plus, me carting wheel barrow loads of chicken poop around to spread in the the garden.

If she hadn't died long ago, it would kill her!

It's so funny, people have expectations of other people to prop up their own beliefs. My FIL is the same way. He won't be seen with me in public because he's afraid to have his friends see him with a pleasantly plump woman. Whatever, that much less socializing I do.

I drive a 76 Ford pickup and it always has stuff in it for me to do what makes me happy. I don't care what other people think, but I have to say it's sad that lots of judgmental people seem to be quite unhappy. Not surprising, just kind of sad.

My aunt (mom's older sis) said her and her husband didn't really know my father upon his death (dad and mom where married and lived 2 HOURS away from all of mom's family and they where married 25 year+ at the time of his death) I asked then why didn't you come to visit us the MULTIPLE times we invited you to visit us (we visited 5 of the 7 times we where invited illness and plans made 3 months before a hey why don't you visit the day after tomorrow call). She replied "Oh it's too far away to drive with three little kids to visit you guys that's why. Funny thing her three "little kids" are 4,6 and 8 years older than me and I'm the oldest child of my parents. Funny thing all mom's family made similar comments, but I figure they must hate driving on roads with 1.5 lanes, named and had signage and black topped for more than 2 miles because all of them live out in the sticks and up to a year ago when they built a new interstate you have to travel more than an hour to see a road wider than 2 lanes or a mall of any kind (strip mall or enclosed) with more than 6 stores. Plus it was aprox. 15 years ago the FEDERAL GOVT. FORCED their podunk little phone companies to get rid of "party lines" and also give them a physical address and not rural route 123 box 987. they still don't have road names for the roads they live on other than county road number 234 or such, and many don't have more than a dozen roads in the county with a road sign on them to tell you what road your on. makes me an out of towner really want to visit them if there is a detour because I have know clue where I am off of the 3 or so roads off the 2 lane highway to get to their houses. Plus I am on a cul-de-sac, I make 1 turn off of a 4 lane 1 turn off the main road a half mile back and am another quarter mile back. if that is too complicated for friends I tell friend where to turn off the 4 lane and then pass 9 houses on the left, make the next left and count 4 more on the left and that's me.

I figured out the expectation part a while back, which is why I've chosen to avoid any more personal relationships. Expectations are a given in them; both mine and theirs. No thanks.

Your FIL sounds like my mother. When I finally got up to 125 - 130 lbs, she would look at me and say, "You're fat! My daughter's FAT!" (Notice how calling me "my daughter" indicates that it reflected negatively on her?)

I guess that's why judgmental people aren't happy; they're insecure about their own beliefs and choice of lifestyle, so are looking for approval or validation from others. Consequently, they sit in judgment of the "uncool ones" to distance themselves from them (us). How could you be happy living like that; always worried what other people think of you? Like you, I don't give a rip about what anybody else thinks. Love me as I am or get lost.

Holy Mackerel!!

Just came back from feeding the girls and collecting eggs. Look what I got!

The one is TWICE the size of the others, like finding 7 eggs instead of 6; biggest I’ve ever seen. Green, too. Looks like a flippin’ emu egg. Wonder if it’s a double yolker? 7
