Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

My husband went to the local feed store to buy some eggs (they sell them for $2.50 a dozen) because I needed to make an angel food cake and can't keep up with the demand for my eggs. The lady at the store asks what he wants them for and he says, "To eat." They were refrigerated and she tells my husband not to leave the out because with the warm weather (it rarely gets over 80 here) they could hatch.
What??!! Someone who works at a feed store is that ignorant about eggs and hatching?? My husband was like Oookaaaay..........

I got a new one today on my facebook!

I posted a pic of my new week old golden laced wyandottes this morning and a friend posted back:


friend: "so you're going to raise crows now?"
me: "no? what?"
friend: "the baby crows"
me: "those are baby CHICKENS"
friend: "no way. I've seen baby chickens. they are YELLOW."
me: facepalm

haha!

Well at least she knew that the yellow things were chicks at least.

Me: "Can you crack this open for me?" *hands egg*

Friend: "Yup." *takes the egg from me*

Me: *walking back to the fridge when I hear..*

Friend: "OMIGOSH! EEEEEK! THERE'S A CHICK!".

Me: "Seriously?" *walking back over*

Friend: "Well duh! Why else would there be blood in the egg?" *I'm smart and I know what I'm doing voice*

Me: "That's probably the meat spot *look*-- yep that's the meat spot."

Friend: "Nooo! That thing!" *hovering finger above it several inches*

Me: "Yeeeeeah that's the meat spot, it's not a chick developing ."

Me: *grabs the spoon and starts mixing the eggs into the flour*

Friend: *gasp and blank stare* "You're a killer!"

I found this. I may be helpful for those that can be educated:

Ummm, where do the eggs come out of a chicken? Okay this is a touchy
subject and if you are easily "grossed out" don't bother to continue.
However, due to the number of people that sheepishly ask me and all the
misconceptions out there, there seems to be a secret need for this
information (that fact that you are still reading is proof enough); let me
enlighten you. Chicken anatomy is not the same as people. I hope it is well
known that people have different aperatures for different tasks in the pelvic
region. Not true with chickens. For lack of a better term, chickens have only
one "hole" called a "vent." They use this for all the things you can imagine
need to happen. Chickens do not urinate. Instead urine is processed into
uric acid and is excreted with feces. The "white part" of bird crap is the
"urine" and the "dark spot" is the feces. This all needs to come out the
vent. The good news is that there is a "valve" that separates the intestines
from the egg chute (see diagram, right). The eggs still occasionally get some
crap on them. Ummm, sorry chicken bathroom habits aren't great and they
will crap in the nests. In the factory farms, this probably happens much
more than in my operation (due to the fact I don't cage my birds and they
spend most of the time outside) but this gets all washed off before you get
them. If this topic trouble you, sorry, but the farm is often not a pretty
place. Either become a vegetarian or come to accept this sort of thing.

My husband has a friend that thought eggs were the chickens poop. Also all chickens poop, therefore all chickens, regardless of age or sex lay eggs. He thought chicks laid jellybean size eggs and as the bird grew the eggs got bigger. He said he never saw any of the little eggs and wondered if they just got thrown away because really it would take a lot of them to equal a regular size egg.

This conversation happened at a friend's house while watching her silkie chicks in their brooder which had a fair amount of poop in it. I did set him straight and he was absolutely amazed. He's in his mid-fifties and never been exposed to chickens except the ones that come shrink wrapped at the store.

Are the blue and green ones edible?
Do they taste different?
Do your eggs have salmonella? (no clue how to spell that...)
they arent sanitary!
Do you find baby chickens in them?
What do you mean you dont have a rooster!?! Chickens cant lay eggs without one!

hahaha people are so funny
