I would venture to guess that most of us didn't know about the rooster/egg laying thing BC (before chickens). Who stopped to think about it? So, don't be so hard on yourself. It's the ones who make the other types of comments (e.g., "I wouldn't eat an egg that came from a chickens' butt; I only eat the ones that come from the store") that deserve to be told, "Here's your sign!"

not Really DUMB, just CUTE, I thought!! :)
"The white chickens (Baby delawares) Lay white eggs and the Brown ones lay brown eggs, right?" Little boy upon seeing my chickens.
"Is that as big as they get?" Little girl, seeing my really little fully feathered? delawares.
my cousin lived on a farm and he had a mostly white cow that they got milk from he spent a night at a neighbors they had black cows and they had chocolate milk for breakfast he asked his parents for a black cow because he thought it would get chocolate milk from it.

The kids are great! Ahhh innocence.

One of the Special Education teachers at our school has a student who is going to get chickens for a 4-H project. Knowing about my chickens, the teacher brought the student by on Friday so we could discuss our mutual interest. He's really excited about getting EEs so he can get colored eggs. I told him as soon as my EEs laid, I'd bring the eggs to school for him to see. Looks like I'll be carrying green eggs to school on Monday! This little boy has a sad history causing emotional problems and gets soooooo excited about chickens. He's gonna FREAK OUT! Can't wait!

I am new to having chickens. Right after I got a 4 month old rooster and hen, I told one of my co-workers that the rooster finally got what he wanted without falling off the hen. She said "OH...she's going to lay baby chickens!!! Or does she lay an egg first.....oh yeah, she lays an egg and it hatches into a baby chicken."

A few weeks ago i gave 7 eggs to one of my coworkers for her son. He was in shock because he had never seen blue and green eggs. He came next day to thank me and to ask me where he can get some of those chickens. I asked if he discussed this idea with his mom (my coworker that hates any kind of pets because she finds them nasty). He made silence and looked away...so I had my answer. He told me that he really wanted them and I told him that,s something he needs to discuss with mom. Later I told her I could hatch some chicks for him if she wanted (never told that to the kid). Blank stare...not even a no or a yes...

I'm thankful I was able to enjoy my childhood.

Hmmm. A slow processor, but she finally gets there.

The kid across the street from me, cousin has chickens and he wants them really badly. I think his father is not very happy with us for getting them, he was telling him they could not have them in this area. The kid asked me if I would tell his father to get him chickens. I told him I would bring over some eggs when they started laying and if he asked questions I would answer them. Poor kid really wants them.

I told the kid I'll bring him eggs from time to time. Not the same but its something.
