Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I've had people ask if my green and blue eggs are because the chickens are sick, they're too old, they're too young, or if that means the eggs have bacteria in them.

I myself never knew chickens -could- lay any other colors besides white and brown, WHY would that upset you? It's not like even if you live on a small farm you would ever see that unless you have that type of chicken.

I just explain how and why that happens, (color of the soils in the areas of the world where the chickens have been specifically breed and allowed to populate feral flocks- seems to work best... slate colored rocks and hilly areas, mountains-blue, fallen leaves and dense vegetation-brown, white for rocky or light colored areas or snow area- the approx South American, Mediterranean, and Asiatic breeds egg color if you go far enough back)

lol, i doubt it... it's the last holiday weekend before school starts... all the knuckleheads are off at the beach, getting sunburned and saying dumb things to the waterfront property owners...

Our kids started back to school on Aug. 9, so I forget the rest of the country starts later.

"Are they green inside, too?" <eyeroll> I used the comparison of red skinned apples vs green or yellow. Same thing inside.

It seems we're all intolerant and critical ... just of different things.

"The inside of the shell, yes, it's the same color, unless it's a brown egg, that's hen spray paint to make the eggs hopefully blend into the nest better. The membrane of the egg, the egg itself are normal color no matte the shell color, just like people the insides are all the same-"

They meant the yolk.

They meant the yolk.

Of course but the standard answer I supplied gives them the benefit of the doubt, having never seen a blue or green chicken egg and having seen the book 'green eggs and ham' green yolks and all...

I like teaching, it's what I do- and I try to be gentle so they will learn and not get defensive, I've converted three people in my metro area to chickens, one has a whole flock the other two only have a small handful of hens.

Nobody is an expert on everything, everyone ask dumb questions about things they are unfamiliar with.

(looking at the monitor) "Is that the computer?" - "Um, no... that's the monitor, it's the TV for the computer, the computer is that box over there..."

I mentioned to someone that I had a lot of cockerels that I was growing up to process because nature gives us 50/50 boys to girls and ya just don't need that many boys.
She said..." Oh well all you have to do is never hatch the pointy eggs. Eat them cuz they are gonna be boys and only hatch the rounder eggs." I told her "thatsss.... an old wives tale". She said "no no...we did it when I was a kid and it was right every time". How could I tell this woman that what she has believed her whole life is totally nonsense? lol
