Which book? Because that's not true.

Here is a documented hybrid.

Note that turkeys don't have nearly as naked of heads as NN turkens do. NN's are bare, turkeys (females at least) have feathers all the way up their head.

Example of a male turkey's head

Now an example of a female turkey's head:

Looks nothing like the NN turkens to me.
It was a little kid's book called "Chickens! Kids look and learn series" It also said that there was a chicken that laid 7 eggs in one day, that a chicken will lay bigger and stronger eggs if we adjust the lighting in their cages to make them think that each day is 28 hours long instead of 24, that chicks begin to develop at 86 degrees, and that chickens will be less flighty if their caretakers walk backwards while tending the henhouse or coop

Ohh. Well there you have it. That book is full of baloney.

I would have never thought it was possible for a cross breed between chickens and turkeys because they are 2 different animals but I guess it's like a donkey and a horse crossbreeding to make an mule (if I am rembering the cross right they produce an offspring that is sterile).

Same with this cross, and it's very (VERY) rare.

This isn't chicken related, but it is animal related. This lady called in to a radio station saying that the deer crossing signs in her town need to be moved, because they are on the highway and even the interstate. She really thought that the deer look at the signs and cross only where there are signs!!

here's the video on youtube:

I think the best one is when I'm asked what silkie tastes like. Then they seem so surprised when I say "Chicken because they are chickens".

Well, this isn't anything that anyone's said to me, but I do think it's pretty funny.

Apparently the heath-food market has a place for fertilized chicken eggs. As in, they are supposed to be healthier just because they're fertilized. Magic enzymes? Who knows.

I just take advantage of the craze by buying them and popping them into the incubator. I got 4 chicks the last time I tried it ^_^.

In partial defense of the great ignorant mass of non-chicken folk, silkie meat does look a heck of a lot different than regular chicken meat. I would expect it to be a stronger tasting type of meat. (Admittedly, I've never eaten a silkie). Is it stronger tasting? Or are they like every other chicken, and taste like what they eat?
