Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Omg... I just read that bs everyone's talking about. My hens r just gonna sit around after retirement cuz they help my blood pressure just to sit n watch them. That alone will save me in medical bills lol. As far as the rooster... Would she prefere they get slaughtered and wasted? I feel offended w/ her crappy take on backyard chickens n those of us that keep them. We r the ones who take great pains to keep meat and or egg birds healthy. I'd rather eat my animals knowing they were organic n treated humanly. Oh how I wish I could debate this person face to face. Lmao

They come out and say, "you don't have any chickens?"

LOL! Yep, the chickens come running when I step outside, but when DH steps outside they run the other way

The dumbest thing anyone ever said about me and my chickens is, that I wash them in the bathtub every Monday.

I kid you not.

Someone somehow heard I was washing birds for a show once, and that I was doing it in the house (not in the bathtub, but the laundry room, thank you very much.) And at that time I went to maybe, oh, five or six shows a year (we don't show now, with two kids in college at the same time, the show budget had to be cut.) But yes, I was washing birds for the show.

But due to the way things get mangled when people repeat them, it somehow turned into "Laura washes her birds every Monday in the bathtub" and now people in our small town think I bath my birds weekly. As if...

lol! My brother thinks that chickens are dumb. my answer is usually "well, they're smarter then you!"

I think they are dumb, but only when it suits them. Try and herd them back in when they want to free range and they are too stupid to find the opening. Try and keep them in when they want to be out and suddenly they all become geniuses lol

Wow, just finished reading this thread. It's awesome! A few years ago my step-daughter and her fam came to visit the Farm and her son, about 7-8 yrs old at the time, saw the rooster on top of the hen and said, " Why are the chickens always fighting?" LOL But he was a trooper and got up every morning to help me open up the egg-mobile and feed the Ladies and Gents. And absolutely LOVED to gather the eggs!
