Upton Sinclair, not Sinclair Lewis, wrote The Jungle. Sinclair Lewis wrote a lot of books but The Jungle was not one of them. He wrote Main Street, Arrowsmith, Elmer Gantry, and others. Since the names of the two authors are so similar they are often confused with one another.Hello Loveourbirds.....You are referring to Sinclair Lewis' novel The Jungle, I believe, when talking about the origins of the USDA.......You guys had a very lively discourse going for a while...What happened to Janierose and Kodster?.....I like opinionated people even if sometimes they are abrasive....As for the Kindles, I found out early on that they totally ruined the reading experience for me...Too slow, too hard on the eyes and, most of all, too inconvenient to manipulate.....As for the assertion that most people do not know where their food comes from and are totally agriculture challenged that is way, way overblown.....You, loveourbirds, didn't say this but many many others did.....I read so many things on this site that make me shake my head in wonderment and disbelief...Take care and God Bless All...
part viii section b that is horrible!Freak out beef eaters even more by telling them chicken poop is used as cattle feed! http://www.bae.ncsu.edu/programs/extension/publicat/wqwm/ag61.html Perhaps mention this as your co-workers are biting into a "clean" BigMac.
I think what you're probably thinking of is a door-stopper of a book called The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. It is about immigrants working in the meat packing industry in Chicago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jungle
blah, blah, blah ... public and governmental reaction to the book ... blah blah blah, "Roosevelt did not release the Neill-Reynolds Report for publication. His administration submitted it directly to Congress on June 4, 1906.[15] Public pressure led to the passage of the Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906; the latter established the Bureau of Chemistry (in 1930 renamed as the Food and Drug Administration)."
