The only way to know for sure about the egg bound is to do an autopsy, which admittedly is hard to perform on one's own pet if you're attached to the bird and rather expensive for a simple "What happened here?" question if you send the bird out to have an outside source do it.Thank you, she was an Isa Brown, and layed HUGE double yolk eggs. Is it possible she became egg bound, and died? She was only about 23 weeks old. No sign of poor health, rest of flock is fine. No sign of attack... Even from the rooster...
Unfortunately, not all birds have the same expiration date (same as people!) Yours passed away young and early, which is a sorry thing. A friend of mine has a 12 y.o. SS who still, on VERY rare occasion, will pop out an egg. However, she is a treasured pet and her owners dote on her. I think the neighbors have started a betting pool on that bird.....
